Imperial knight : Casa Hawkshroud / House hawkshroud
Este es uno de los dos caballeros que me venian en la caja del renegade . El otro esta pintado con los colores de la casa malinax y tendra su entrada propia .
This is one of the knights from the renegade box . The other one (the traitor) is painted with house Malinax colours and has his own entry .
Inicialmente el tema de los caballeros me parecio increible, las figuras estan muy bien hechas y resultan impactantes encima del tablero de juego (si es que jugais) . Ademas esto se acentua con un buen pintado . Me plantee incluso hacer un ejercito de caballeros, pero tras pintar dos creo que ya estoy algo saturado de imperial knights .
En el caso de este caballero pase bastante rato dandole vueltas y mirando videos para ver como podia representar el color amarillo, es un color bonito si se hace bien, me centre en los puños imperiales para coger inspiracion pero casi ningun conjunto de colores de los que veia me acababa de cuadrar .
Finalmente y tras varios intentos de prueba y error y de despintado con alcol hirviendo me quede con una variacion del metodo de buypainted (muy recomendable, podeis buscarlo en youtube) para puños imperiales que consiste en efectuar una imprimacion en gris vallejo (si se hace en negro los tonos amarillos quedan excesivamente apagados) , luego una capa base de averland sunset, una modulacion a oscuro con burnt umber, y otra modulacion en el lado opuesto con flash gitz yellow .
Initially the knights background and history impressed me, the models were great and make an impact on the table . More over this is increased with a good paint . I even considered making an imperial knight solo army, but after these 2 models Im a little bit saturated with knights.
With this model I did a lot of tests and research with videos in order to achieve a good yellow colour, yellow is a nice colour if done properly , I focused at imperial fists in order to get some inspiration but I had a hard time getting something worth for me .
Finally and after some tests (including unpainting with boiling alcohol) my choice was my own variation of the buypainted technique (you can see his videos at youtube, skilled painter with good tutorials) for imperial fists . That is priming with vallejo grey (its a must, if you use black priming the yellow will look very different and dark) , an averland sunset base layer, an finally 2 oposite modulations, the dark one with vallejo burnt umber (but any dark brown should do) and another one with citadel flash gitz yellow .
El resultado es bueno, un amarillo algo anaranjado, algo huevo, pero alejado de los tonos chillones y excesivamente claros que se pueden ver por ahi . Me recuerda un poco a los tractores amarillos :)
Las partes negras estan tiradas con negro y luego una modulacion irregular semicenital de mechanicus standard y un toque de administratum grey, he considerado toda la hombrera como una sola pieza a nivel de iluminacion .
Para los rebordes me plantee hacer un TMM pero no me salio bien con los metalicos que tenia, tengo pendiente probar con la gama metalic air de vallejo que creo que da algo mejor resultado en aerografo . De manera que hice un NMM ampliando el gris, para que pareciera mas plata , con lo cual perdi algo de contraste respecto al que hice en negro .
The result is nice, a yellow with some orange look, in someway like an egg :) but its away from the shiny yellows you can see with imperial fists around . It makes me remember to agricultural tractors .
I have considered the whole should as a single piece for ilumination .
At first I thought about a true metallic metal for the borders but the tests were very bad, I will try agagin TMM with the vallejo metallic brand, maybe I get better results with the airbrush . So I finally did a NMM with a very width grey , almost hiding the whole black in order to get closer to a silver shiny look, losing some contrast .
Para el weathering lleve a cabo un procedimiento de desgaste con una esponja usando 3 colores, negro, rhinox hide de citadel (que seria un marron oscuro) y algo de typhus corrosion . El resultado es bastante bueno , en la parte de la espada creo que me he excedido .
For weathering I used a sponge and 3 colorus, black, rhinox hide, and typhus corrossion . The result is very good, maybe I put too much at the back
Finalmente barnice en brillante y aplique oleos paneladores , en concreto el mig negro noche , deje secar y limpie, luego aplique dos oleos de streaking de mig, un marron medio y un negro e intente hacer chorretones, esto siempre sale un poco de aquella manera y en algunos espacios no habia suficiente margen pero el resultado es bueno .
Para los metalicos del chasis copie el metodo del blog psicofarmacosparatodos que usa un pincel seco sobre negro en 3 colores warplock bronce , brass scorpoion y runefang steel (aunque yo use necron compound) .
En los tubos de escape, como el amarillo es muy claro, no pude hacer OSL de iluminacion con alto contraste porque no resaltaria, asi que aplique tinta humo de vallejo .
Para las calcas compre las de GW, varias no quedaron del todo integradas porque no eran transparentes . Para desgastarlas las lije, en algunas me he pasado lijando y he hecho desconchones excesivos .
El ultimo paso un barnizado en mate para que no brillara tanto y darle un toque mas apagado que me recuerda mas al ambiente grim dark de warhammer .
The end was a gloss barnish and paneling oil using mig back night, I allowed it to dry and cleaned a little bit with enamel . After that I applied the streaking again from mig, two colours, brown and black .
For metalics from chasis I copied the method used at psicofarmacosparatodos.blogspot.com , it is a drybrush over black using 3 metallic colorus brass scorpoion y runefang steel (I used necron compound instead of runefang steel ) .
I didnt want to make OSL with lights and fire for vents since yellow is to shiny to achieve a great contrast , so I applied vallejo smoke ink .
The transfers are from GW, some of them just dont fit and cant integrate within the model since they are not transparent and have a white background (you can see that with the shield) . In order to weather the decals I used a sandpaper , being careful , but there are some areas where I put to much force and the holes are too much (for me) .
With this done I pushed a matt barnish since I wanted a darker look which I think fits better with grim dark background for warhammer 40k
